I made a quick trip up to the cabin on Sunday to photograph the spectacular fall colors of the Appalachians. Expect to see many new photos on the walls over the coming couple of months. On to the shots!

The cabin is awash in fall colors.

Bees are capturing pollen from the fall wildflowers.

Duncan Bridge road leads to a paradise of fall foliage.

Dick's Creek is simply spectacular.

Lower Helton Creek Falls flows through gorgeous fall foliage.

Spent 4 nights up there and enjoyed the beginning of Fall. Temperatures dropped into the 40s at night and hovered in the mid 70s throughout the day, making it perfect for some hiking as well as enjoying the Sorghum Festival in Blairsville. The leaves are beginning to change in the upper elevations, although around the cabin things are still pretty green. I expect that will change quite a bit over the coming 2 weeks. There were some great photographs to be taken though!

Spent some time up on Brasstown Bald. It is a must-do for anyone who visits the area!

The view from the top is incredible.

The colors up there are getting to be very nice.

We also hiked part of the Wagon Train Trail as well, which was full of color.

Spent a long weekend up there and added quite a few more photos to the walls as well as a large HDTV in the main living area. Also got to go riding for several days and the weather was perfect, with highs around 80 and lows in the upper 50s. It felt like Fall and I suspect that the leaves will begin to change over the coming weeks. We received a lot of rain on Sunday which should keep everything green and fresh for weeks to come. Only fired off one photo on this last trip, a shot off of Wayah Road up in N.C.

Wayah Road is a motorcyclist's dream.

Had another peaceful but productive weekend up at the cabin. Lows of around 60 with highs around 80 made everything very pleasant, and we had a great (but strenuous) hike on Saturday. We also had some of the trees pruned, improving the view even more. On to the pics!

We took down a few more limbs, which dramatically improved the view from the upper deck.

The Logan Turnpike trail was a challenge! Very steep for the first mile from Richard Russell, and the trail looks like it is rarely used.

At least by humans!

After a bit you get to the Town Creek headwaters, which is just beautiful.

We never saw another human, giving us plenty of time to enjoy the beauty of these mountains.

This area of the trail has many shoals and small waterfalls.

Had a nice trip up for the weekend, although it was too short and we didn't want to leave in the morning. Added a few more things to the inside of the cabin, including a dehumidifier to take care of the humid conditions in the bottom bedroom. It looked like it would rain all weekend, but it never actually opened up on us. Noticing that we couldn't see Brasstown Bald at all, we thought it would be a great time to go and hike the Wagon Train Trail, which connects to the Brasstown Bald parking lot. We were so glad we did, because the temperatures were almost chilly, and the photos were dramatic!

Lush, green undergrowth was everywhere along the Wagon Train Trail

Conditions were very foggy, which made for great photography

The trail was easy to follow and not difficult at all

No telling how long this sign has been here

We were out of the country for quite a while so it has been some time since the last blog update. We just spent a week up there and took care of several things, plus relaxed and enjoyed the area. Our rentals have been very strong over the past several months, and as promised, we have put all of that money back into the cabin. We added furniture to all of the porches, plus new interior decorations/furnishings. A big thanks to all of our renters, and we hope your stay is pleasant and you come and visit again.
On to the photos!

A big thunderstorm rolled through and I managed to capture a lightning bolt striking close to Brasstown Bald.

The sunset afterwards was magnificent.

There are still wildflowers everywhere you look, even in the summer heat.

Duke's Creek Falls is a short but worthwhile hike.

The top of Richard Russell Byway, a mere 7 miles from the cabin, offers very cool temps and splendid views.

Spent a night up there to get some things taken care of before the next group of renters. It was simply beautiful, with a nice variation between sun and rain clouds, and a constant breeze. Added a portable A/C for the upstairs master bedroom in case it gets warm up there in July. Hopefully it won't be needed too much though, since temps are usually in the low 60s at night throughout the summer. Of course, took a few photos as well!

Oxeye Daisies were everywhere

Sitting on the swing is a perfect spot to capture a beautiful sunset.

Woke up early in the morning to a dense fog in the valley. The mountain tops were clear, but visibility in the valley was very low. It is always amazing how weather conditions can change so quickly up in the mountains.

Went up for the weekend to take care of several things, including the addition of more furniture to several rooms, and the removal and enclosure of the back door off the kitchen. When we bought the place there was a fridge sitting in front of a door, and it bothered us quite a bit so we figured it would bother the renters as well. That door is now a wall thanks to the excellent work of handyman Eddie. Let's move on to the good part though, the beautiful mountains!

We love walking along Fain Branch Road, the sunsets and scenery are just incredible.

The church next to our property has a very picturesque cemetary.

Another shot from Fain Branch Road, this time facing towards Blood Mountain.

Woke up this morning to rain, but the clouds clinging to the mountains were still gorgeous.

Spent the day up at the cabin getting ready for the first wave of guests. The weather was simply spectacular, with a nice cool breeze blowing out of the north and some seriously blue skies. As you can tell by the photos, things are nice and green everywhere except for the highest peaks.

The grass and trees around the cabin are very green.

Brasstown Bald looms in the distance behind the Baptist church.

Spring is definitely in the air, as many of the trees on the property are in full bloom and the groundcover is turning more and more green. There are 12 Dogwood trees on the property and many of them are blossoming. We hiked Raven Cliff Falls and it was simply spectacular, as you can see from many of the photos below.

Raven Cliff Falls is spectacular

You walk along the creek for the entire length of the trail.

Things are getting very green on the property.

The Dogwood trees along the front of the property are beginning to bloom.

Things are beginning to look a bit more green in the area, with a hint of spring in the air. Wildflowers are working their way up through the leaves, and most of the trees have now established lots of buds. Certainly the coming weeks will bring plenty of color to the fields and mountains of the area, as the temperatures have warmed up nicely in the higher elevations.

Wildflowers are beginning to bloom on the property.

Brasstown Bald is not yet seeing the green of spring.

Looking off the front porch at the clouds clinging to the higher mountains.

A couple of cows gave us some curious glances during our afternoon walk.
